For class of 2008 Tipton graduate Nick Ohrt, November 28th was a day that changed his life forever. He was in an accident in Missouri leading to a long road to recovery and extensive medical care. Ohrt still has a lot of family in Tipton, including his mother Sandy, a paraeducator in the district, and cousins who are still students at the high school.

When the idea was brought up by the Student Council to pivot the Hoops for a Cure benefit night to Swishin’ for Nick, a benefit to assist with the high cost of medical care, everyone was in support. In his time as a Tiger, Ohrt left a lasting impression on the basketball program and even still has his name in the record books for 3 pointers made in a game.

The events of the night included basketball, National Honor Society hosted a “Chuck a Duck” contest, silent auction, raffle prizes, t-shirt sales, and more. The Tiger community overwhelmingly supported all of these events with over 400 people in attendance. Student Council had a hardworking group of students and adults who helped make this so successful. The National Honor Society was able to raise $679 towards the total and the rest of the proceeds from the night totaled $11,127!

But it didn’t stop there, later that week Fine Arts used their one act student directed show, to accept free will donations and 100% of the proceeds were donated to the family. For their show they were able to raise $1,126 bringing the grand total to $12,977! Thank you to anyone who donated, whether it was time or money, to support one of our own.
